First laboratory to test micro nutrients inaugurated in Faridkot

The new imported machine can test both micro and major nutrients from a single sample.

 Faridkot: First of its kind modern laboratory to test the micro-nutrients has been inaugurated on Wednesday by Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon, Faridkot MLA and political adviser to the chief minister Punjab.

The laboratory would help the farmers of 11 districts of the region who can now get their soil tested for micronutrients here.

“The new machine which cost Rs 80 lakh has been imported from German and it works with emission spectroscopy techniques. The machine has its distinguished feature as it can test both the micro and major nutrients in the single sample of the soil,” Dhillon said while inaugurating the new machine which has been installed at the laboratory of the department of agriculture and farmers welfare Faridkot.

Earlier, there was a laboratory to test soil but it could test the three major nutrients in the soil as phosphorus, nitrogen and potash.

The new machine can test 60 to 80 samples in one hour setting it once.

Baldev Singh, joint director agriculture(inputs) advised the farmers to make economic use of fertilizers to reduce their expenses.

“The farmers can directly bring their samples for soil testing and besides it, the department would also test samples during the window period of the winter and summer season crops on its own under soil health scheme,” said Harnek Singh Rode, chief agriculture officer Faridkot.
