AAP to extend free legal aid to farmers against those behind insulting farmers: Bhagwant Mann

CHANDIGARH: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab, taking a serious note of the derogatory remarks being directed by the leaders of Bhartiya Janta Party and Congress and some other people at the country’s ‘annadata’, who was currently fighting for his survival, said it was unbecoming on the part of those behind this false propaganda.

The farmers had been recently raising objections against those spearheading the false and frivolous propaganda against them and dragging them to the court of law. The beleaguered farmers got in touch with the Aam Aadmi Party, which announced its whole-hearted support to extend all possible legal assistance to the farmers for free to register defamation cases against those people the detractors to court for making false statements against them (farmers).

Addressing the media at Sangrur on Wednesday, state unit President and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann said that ever since the farmers started their agitation against the new farm laws enacted by the Union government, some political leaders and others had been spreading false propaganda against the farmers, painting them as terrorists and anti-national.

The AAP MP said that the false and frivolous propaganda against the farmers, who were agitating against the three agriculture marketing laws in this biting cold, was unbecoming on the part of those behind the propaganda. Mann further said that the AAP stood  rock solid behind the farmers’ movement from the beginning, the AAP has  decided to extend free legal assistance to the farmers in slapping defamation cases against those behind the false propaganda against the farmers and would extend all possible help to them in consultation with the party lawyers.“

Mann said that so far more than 26 farmers had attained martyrdom while protesting to save their lands and livelihood from corporate houses, Adanis and Ambanis, adding that “It is unfortunate that the  ‘annadata’ who fed people of the country was on a hunger strike today on the occasion of Farmers’ Day while the ruthlessly insensitive government was unmoved by the pitiable plight of the farming fraternity”.

Taking a swipe at the Prime Minister, Bhagwant Mann said that today when the farmers of the country were agitating for their rights on the Delhi borders, he (PM Narendra Modi) was acting as a mediator of corporate houses and peddling lies about the farmers genuine demands. Mann added that the Union Government was misleading the people of the country by spreading rumors about the farmers and their ongoing struggle, instead of taking an urgent call on their demands, adding the Modi government should abandon its stubborn stance and accede to the demands and immediately reverse the draconian laws aimed at benefiting  the corporate houses.
